The Royal Navy Artificer Training Establishment (RNATE) is a branch of the Royal Navy having responsibility for the training of Artificers (RN Engineering Technicians) who go on to specialise in various engineering disciplines as required. During the RNATE’s history, training took place at various establishments across Britain, the most notable being HMS Fisgard at Gosport. Many RNATE training bases were opened in response to the outbreak of WW2 in 1939 but over the years these were closed down leaving only HMS Raleigh.
