For sale is a WW2 British Army pamphlet which is titled;

“D.W.S. NOTES ON AMMUNITION ISSUE No. 20 THE STORAGE OF AMMUNITION & EXPLOSIVES IN THE FIELD IT IS POINTED OUT THAT THESE NOTES ARE NOT A PERSONAL ISSUE TO INDIVID- UALS, AND MUST NOT BE TAKEN AWAY WHEN INDIVIDUALS LEAVE A STATION OR DEPOT. THIS MUST NOT FALL INTO THE HANDS OF THE ENEMY.”

 (DWS) stands for Department of War Studies

This was issued to Ibstock Place in Roehampton London on the 27th of October 1943.

The preface of this pamphlet states the following;

“These instructions which will always be adhered to in principle apply to storage at Home and Overseas. In emergency, relaxation may be necessary, but normally, any instruction mandatory in form will only be relaxed on War Office or G.H.Q. authority. In any operations the first ammunition depots to be established will be road-served. The construction of rail-served depots may never be undertaken in a theatre of operations. This pamphlet, therefore, deals in the details of a road-served depot. General principles apply, however, to both types.”
