For sale is a Rare WW1 Highland Light Infantry HLI 1917-18 Christmas Greetings Card which is in good condition but it does have some light staining. 

 

The front cover holds the emblem of the highland light infantry followed by the words “on active service, the featherbeds, Christmas and new years 1917-18.

 

The inside has an illustration titled “Good Cheer”. 

 

Followed by a poem that reads: 

 

“Christmas-"Somewhere!” BULLY an' biscuits, an' chunks o' cheese! What care we for the likes o' these ! Buttered "Rootie " an' jam that's pink, An' this is CHRISTMAS-I don't think ! Chicken an' dumplin', hame-made cake (This is the "Jinkies" an' no mistake). Allez! cook, with your "Leeky " soups, "This is the stuff to give the Troops!" Let's commune with a Wild Woodbine, Over our dear ones, yours and mine, Look at Life through the curling smoke, And give God thanks for the hameland folk. Rain an' slush and a world o' mire (Draw in close round the old wood fire); Set your teeth in the "Blighty " chuck, And "Over the Top" wi' the best o' luck. N. M.”
