The preface to this pocket book states:

“"FIRST AID IN A FEW WORDS" was originally compiled in the form of Questions and Answers based on the 39th Edition of the Official Text Book of the St. John Ambulance Association to assist Rail- waymen to a better understanding of "First Aid to the Injured." That the publication was appreciated is established by the fact that the first edition was rapidly disposed of. A second edition has therefore been prepared with the addition of relative questions and their answers in respect to First Aid for Gas Casualties, in the hope that it will serve a similar useful purpose for those who have hitherto been denied an opportunity of perusing its pages. If, as a result, the means of securing knowledge of these important subjects has been extended, I shall have the satisfaction of knowing that the effort has not been in vain. F. A. TROTT”
