The preface to this book is as follows:

“Preface

THE purpose of this book is to give student pilots information which will enable them to use some of the radio aids available at the present time.

There are neither difficult calculations nor feats of memory to be performed. Using a few simple rules, all calculations are made mentally, allowing the position of the aircraft to be found at any time.

I must emphasize, however, that no amount of book- learning can replace practice in the air or in a Link Trainer; but the learning comes first, and I hope this booklet will help in that. I would also point out that, although you should try to be as accurate as possible, do not expect to be accurate to within one degree any more than you might expect to make a perfect three-point landing.

The approaches described are not necessarily standard procedures, but the method described in carrying them out may be adapted to any requirement of an instrument ap- proach chart.

No one can do your thinking for you. As captain of your aircraft you are the man responsible for making decisions and solving problems during approaches and descents. The information contained in this booklet should help you to solve these problems and to adjust your flight plan as necessary with speed and confidence.
