The forward states;
“Lieut.-Commander Edwards' book, which I have read with interest and pleasure, thoroughly justifies its title, giving a complete and admirable picture of the expanding British Navy -its ships, its men, its armaments and its duties. Nor has the author neglected the historical and traditional aspects of his subject.
Now that the world situation has given the theme of our defences a vital interest for every Briton, such a book as this is invaluable to readers of any age. It will be found exceed- ingly useful as well as inspiring to boys thinking of joining the Navy, and I have every confidence in giving The Navy of To-day my blessing.”
