For sale is a Pre WW1 1904 Volunteer Force Long Service & Good Conduct Medal which is engraved on the rim “1157 Serjt T Martin 2nd V.B Devon Reg”.

Sergeant Martin served in the 2nd Volunteer Battalion Devonshire regiment and was issued Volunteer Force Long Service & Good Conduct Medal on the 1st of April 1904 after 20 years of service.

The Volunteer Long Service Medal was instituted in 1894 as an award for long service by other ranks and some officers of the United Kingdom's Volunteer Force. Award of the medal was discontinued when it was superseded by the Territorial Force Efficiency Medal in 1908. The qualifying period of service was twenty years and the medal could be awarded upon the recommendation by an individual's present or, if retired, former commanding officer. Service had to have been consecutive, with allowance being made for special circumstances. Officer recipients who were subsequently awarded the Volunteer Officers' Decoration would have to surrender the medal.

Accompanying this medal is 1 scan of his service records. Upon payment please let me know if you would prefer digital scans or printed copies. There is still plenty of research to be done on this medal!
