For sale is a WW1 Silver Hallmarked Hockey 1915 Medal To George Hook Killed 1st Day Of Loos.
This silver hallmarked hockey tournament medal is engraved on the reverse “Murree Hockey Tournament 1915 Pte G Hook”. This medal is silver hallmarked for Birmingham 1915 by Joseph Jenner’s & Co. This medal weighs 36.16 grams. Sadly George was killed just months later after winning this silver hockey medal.
With further research we were able to find out more details regarding George Hooks military service.
George was born in Croydon in Surrey, and his place of residence was Devonport.
George’s service number was 10736, rank was a private, full name George Hook, and his regiment/ battalion was 8th battalion Devonshire regiment.
George entered the French theatre of war on the 25th of the July 1915.
Unfortunately George was killed in action on the 25th of September 1915 during the 1st day of the battle of Loos. The first day of the attack at Loos, Claimed 299 men of the 8th Battalion, listed by the CWGC as having died on that day.
George was entitled to a British war medal, victory medal and 1914-15 star unfortunately these are missing. George was remembered with honours at the Loos Memorial on panel 35 to 37.
