For sale is a WW1 British War Medal & 3rd Prize For Musketry Recruits 1913 To Pte G Ellis Yorkshire Hussars.
This British war medal is engraved “2911 Pte G Ellis York Hrs”. Accompanying the British war medal is a steel & black leather cigar case that has a silver plaque that is engraved “York Hussars 3rd Prize Musketry Recruits Course 1913 Pte G H Ellis”.
George Ellis lived at 12 Belmont road in Harrogate upon enlisting into the Yorkshire hussars in 1913. He had some time away from service but then re enlisted on the 25th of January 1915. From the 25th of January 1915 until 6th of July 1916 he served at home, and then from the 7th of July 1916 he disembarked for France and served there until his discharge until the 3rd of April 1919.
On the 18th of May 1918 George was wounded at the front but then returned to the front shortly after spending some time in hospital.
George served in the Yorkshire hussars under the service number 2911 and with the West Yorkshire regiment 235724.
George was entitled to the British war medal and victory medal but unfortunately the victory medal is missing.
