For sale is a Rare Antique WW1 Hand Carved Soap Figure Prison Art & handkerchief. Throughout history, especially during World War One and World War Two prisoners of war and political prisoners would have a lot of time on there hands when they weren’t put to work or participating in prison routines. Prison art was a popular way of helping time pass and creating works of art for people back home, weather this was in the form of small wooden carvings, celluloid prison rings or hand carving soap sculptures. This beautiful piece is a cracking example of prison art a hand carved sculpture of a human males face, perhaps a self portrait for his or hers sweetheart back home. This has been preserved well with the cotton handkerchief with a little blue cotton boy sewn into the corner which has wrapped round this little soap carving for some time now, protected by a antique jewellery silversmiths card box. This is an exceptional piece and a very rare item indeed to have survived all this time in this condition.
