The box has a beautiful patina/ natural staining to the wood, dovetail sides, and large brass nails in the top- once possibly used for ammo, first aid, equipment storage/ carry case etc. Would be a great piece to restore, one of the back screws are missing and the lock both bottom and top is missing too.
