For sale is a rare Pre WW2, 1934-35 German Transitional Black Wool & Leather Police Shacko. This shacko is in beautiful condition, the shacko cockade has a gold painted centre which runs in correlation with the chinstrap, followed by red, black and silver. The cockade is maker marked on the reverse With the Assman Logo and the following "F.W. ASSMAN & SOHNE, LUDENSCHEID", in which it's in good condition. The police shacko eagle breast plate badge is highly detailed, and in brilliant condition, however the beak of the eagle is missing (please see photographs) however this is covered by the cockade. This police shacko is an earlier transitional issue and unfortunately is rarely seen today. When the National Socialists came to complete power (“Machtergreifung”) in 1933, the police came under this new national administration and much of their uniforms were changed in two stages. First, the only changeover of the traditional headgear was to do away with the front cap badges with state seal patterns and replace them with the N.S. eagle and swastika that is surrounded by oak leaves and acorns. The body of the early examples were produced with fiber material and invariably colored. Later, when Heinrich Himmler took over all German police functions and administrations, the uniform was radically changed and the shako for the police was improved and beautified by having green-wool covering laid over the whole of the helmet’s body. This was in fact much prettier, but in the early 1930s the black shako like the one we offer was still used, but with the new Reich eagle. This is an exceptional piece, guaranteed original or money back. Open to sensible offers. This will be sent via special delivery, insured and dispatched within 2 to 3 working days.
