For sale is a rare WW1 German Imperial Army Officers Vulcain Working Chronometer Wrist Watch. Vulcain Silver 935 Berlin hallmarked wrist watch, the inside back of the watch is marked with a royal VD cypher monogram . Maurice Ditisheim Vulcain, Maurice Ditisheim, founder of the Vulcain manufacture in 1858 the cypher is the merge of two companies, (standing bear in shield) Berlin, (0,935 in a rectangle) silver standard, (84 in a rectangle) 84 zolotniks, (standing bear in shield) Berlin, 615309 (watch case number), Half Moon and Imperial Crown, Halbmond und Reichskrone: used on silver. 

 

Part of Ditisheim watchmakers family, Maurice (1833-1899) founded the manufacture Maurice Ditisheim in 1858. Only in 1894 shortly before his departure, he started using the brand VULCAIN, of witch he was the founder. Other, more recent Ditisheims was Paul, well known and productive founder of SOLVEY & TITUS, and ACHILLE, founder of MOVADO.

 

Vulcain was often used by both the British, American and Germans during WW1 & WW2 due to their superior accuracy and quality.
