WW2 Gift Of The American Red Cross POW Enamel Bowl Dorset 1938

SOLD OUT

Code: 12016

For sale is a very rare WW2 Gift Of The American Red Cross POW Prisoner of war Black rimmed Enamel Bowl marked on the base Dorset/38. This early pre war black rimmed enamel bowl holds three very important markings, the first is the gift of the American Red Cross sticker stamp which was issued on all American Red Cross goods given to the United Kingdom towards the war effort, the second is the manufacture sticker which states “Duroware, Beco ware, no 26, bellaire enamel co, bellaire Ohio USA”, followed by marks which has been done in red paint/ enamel on the base “B.R.C.S Dorset/38.” Which stands for the British Red Cross society Dorset 1938. This enamel bowl looks to be unused, and in good condition (with a small amount of rust on the rim). Gifts from the American Red Cross were often intended for prisoners of war camps, in which there was a prisoner of war camp in Dorchester during this period. These large enamel bowls would have been used as wash bowls either for hygiene or for washing bandages to be reused again.
